Trinity Lutheran Church has been a cornerstone of faith in Russellville, Missouri, since the congregation's first worship service on September 1, 1895, under the leadership of Reverend J. Paul Franke. The original church, a small frame building on Marion Street, was dedicated in 1896 as the congregation began serving the spiritual needs of the community.
As membership grew, the congregation purchased land for its current campus in 1907. A new parsonage was dedicated in 1911, followed by the laying of the cornerstone for the present brick church. On August 4, 1912, the congregation celebrated the dedication of its new sanctuary with services in both German and English attended by more than 1,200 people. A one-room schoolhouse was also dedicated that year, reflecting Trinity's commitment to Christian education.
Designed in the Romanesque Revival style, Trinity's twin-tower brick church remains one of the area's architectural treasures. The sanctuary retains many of its original features, including beautiful stained-glass windows, hand-painted religious artwork, historic furnishings, and the 1931 Hinners pipe organ.
The church campus continued to grow with the addition of the Parish Hall in 1940, which remains a center for worship, fellowship, and community events.
In recognition of its architectural and historical significance, Trinity Lutheran Church and its historic campus including the church, parsonage, schoolhouse, and Parish Hall were designated a Historic District by the United States Department of the Interior, National Park Service, during the congregation's 125th anniversary.
Today, more than 130 years after its founding, Trinity Lutheran Church continues its mission of Living Our Faith in Christ, honoring its rich heritage while faithfully serving future generations.
